BMJ

Berkeley Medical Journal operates as a club as well as a DeCal course. Each semester, we showcase original articles by UC Berkeley undergraduates that explore cutting-edge medical innovations, public health issues, and biomedical research in the Bay Area. Students in this DeCal take on the role of scientific journalists. Paired with an editor, they choose their own topics and write a short report and a feature piece, with the chance to be published in the semesterly issue of our journal, as well as our website. In class time, students engage in workshops, peer reviews, and editorial meetings designed to strengthen their scientific communication skills. In addition to guided writing support, students complete short assignments to deepen their understanding of science journalism, conduct an interview with a research expert, and have the opportunity to interact with an industry professional at our semesterly guest lecture.
